 The Trial of the Chicago 7 es una película coral que nos muestra el proceso de enjuiciamiento de los principales representantes de grupos antiguerra de Vietnam que al reunirse en la ciudad de Chicago a modo de protesta, se desató una manifestación contra las fuerzas policiales.   

A lo largo de la historia se puede observar los diferentes objetivos y mentalidades de los protagonistas, cada uno con una perspectiva diferente de la situación política del Estados Unidos de la época, pero cada una igual de válida e interesante. A pesar de tener como trama principal un jurado, y a pesar de la falta de una paleta de colores brillante o atractiva, estos elementos son obviados por el poder de la palabra y el dinamismo entre estas e imágenes retrospectivas. Es un deleite observar el desenvolvimiento de cada personaje dentro de la corte, afuera y contra ellos mismos. 

Esta película además de retratarnos un hecho histórico controversial en la historia de los Estados Unidos, se muestra la guerra declarada de este país en contra el comunismo y cualquier expresión del mismo. El comportamiento incompetente del juez es una imagendel miedo y tiranía del país, dispuesto a eliminar cualquier contradicción al pensamiento estado unidense de la época, otra preuba de esto es la presencia de Bobby Seale, co-fundador del movimiento Black Panther, grupo que el gobierno tenía especial interés en desmantelar. Bobby fue enjuiciado injustamente e incluso se continuó con el proceso sin siquiera él tener un abogado que lo represente. Una manera inteligente de mostrar el miedo y determinación de los Estados Unidos por erradicar estos grupos emergentes fue la presencia y asesinato de Fred Humpton como intento de boicotear a los Black Panther. 

The Trial of the Chicago 7 cumple perfectamente la función de las películas: entretener y desde la seguridad de nuestros hogares mostrarnos aspectos que desconocemos de la vida. Nos muestra un Estados Unidos que a pesar de salir victorioso de una guerra mundial, está temeroso de entrar en otro y al mismo tiempo siente el deber ante el mundo de demostrar el poder que tiene, aún si eso requería crear una guerra en sus propias calles.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 is a movie which shows the prosecution process of the main leaders of anti-Vietnam war, who gathered in Chicago as a protest where it ended up in a riot against police forces. 

Trough the story can be seen the main characters’ different objectives and thoughts, each one with a distinct about the US politic situation by that time. Despite of the fact that the main plot is developed in a trial, and there's no a great colour palette, these elements are obviated by the power of the dialogues combined with the dynamism of retrospective images. Is a pleasure watching the development of each character in the trial, in their personal life and against themselves.  

This movie besides of showing a controversial historical fact in the US, it portrays the declared war of this country against communism and every expression of it. The judge’s behaviour is a representation of the country’s fear and tyranny, disposed to eliminate every single american current thought. Another prove of this is the presence of Bobby Seale, Black Panther’s movement co-founder, group which the government had special interest in dismantle. Sealer was unfairly judged and even the trial went on without him having a lawyer. A clever way to show the fear and determination that the US had to eradicate those movements was the presence and murder of Fred Hampton as a boycott attempt against the Black Panther group. 

The Trial of the Chicago 7 fulfill perfectly the movies function: entertain and from the safety of homes, show aspects that we don’t know about life. Shows a United States that despite of winning a world war, is afraid of another world-wide conflict and at the same time feel the duty to the world to evidence the mighty they are, even if that require begin a war in their own streets.
